Not really a class part person and this prof didn’t force class part onto you unlike other profs I heard, so I appreciated that. However, if I actually focused on class part every week, it probably would have boosted my grades up to A or A+ so I regret it a bit on hindsight.

For the prof, her teachings were clear and suited my style. She goes through worskhop questions every week, and gives answers which are concise and contains all the key points you have to include for your final exam. For the TB, many people (including me) only uses the Tabalujan textbook, which should be more than enough for you to get by the course.

    Recommendations:
    1. Take notes especially because final exam is huge. Almost every chapter is important because they could be in the exam, which is why the workload is hard, but focus especially on Torts (it always appears on the test guaranteed).
    2. Class part is 20% which is pretty high, so don’t take it for granted.
    3. My group for the project was pretty good. Your team grade is only based on your slides but the individual component is all about on your speech, so make sure you memorize it, make eye contact with everyone, and speak slowly. Your speech should be maximum 500-600 words imo since you only have 4-5 minutes to present depending on how many group members you have (I had 5 people).
    4. Lastly, see PAST PAPERS. You don’t even have to do the questions if you don’t have time like me. Read the prof’s feedback for the exams at the bare minimum. Take note of the common mistakes students make for each type of question and avoid them. I’m pretty sure that’s how I got my A- as you’ll stand out from the rest.

    Prof: Harry Tan
    1. Amazing Prof
    2. His knowledge and teaching is insanely good. It was really enjoyable, much his teaching style may not be for everyone. If you’re a person who wants to take the short way out or tends to try to smoke your way through, you’re likely to suffer in his class. Not because of his scoldings and whatnot, but because every class needs you to be prepared. Harry is actually very encouraging and really helpful once you look past his angst at times and strictness. To put simply, he is more of a tough love kind of prof, which I like. If you read the material and you are confused or do not understand before class, its alright he will guide you through. However if you did not read the material and try to smoke your way through or do not put in your individual effort, then that’s where you’ll get flamed. CONSISTENCY is key in blaw. If you are consistent, trust me, this mod will be a fun and fruitful one.

Overall a very good mod but heavy in content. Teaching quality is superb, detailed marker’s report. Ample feedback as well. High quality teaching by profs. Probably they are great in English. Nothing but praises. Overall grade: A

Definitely one of the most challenging modules of the NBS Group A basket. The weekly workload consists of about 30 pages of readings (1 chapter) and some seminar questions. While it may appear manageable at first glance, the method of assessment (closed-book) as well as the sheer amount of content to memorise (case law) will come back to haunt you if your fundamentals are weak. Consistent practice is key – you will not have enough time to cram this after Teaching Week 13. If it isn’t already obvious, textbook is critical because tutors generally refer to it in class with the expectation that you have internalised the material before class.

While the content is interesting, your mileage with the mod will vary, depending on your tutor. Prof Harry has a short temper but is generally forgiving when it comes to CA marks if you can show that you are putting in the effort in the 20% presentation or in the 20% class participation. However, as finals are 60%, it will still be important to memorise your facts well as some students who put in less effort will suffer in the closed-book finals, thus helping your bell curve.

Profs for this mod are pretty angsty. I got one of them. Bellcurve is super steep. Even though I did well for class part, by results were really meh. This could be attributed to my finals however, I also did not hear many people scoring well. Please choose your prof carefully and definitely do your tutorials!

Being quite interested in law, I honestly enjoyed the mod. My professor encouraged robust discussions which effectively reinforces learning, and business law is honestly quite important for us business students who may deal with contracts and legal-related issues in future. The module is quite content heavy and it is important to attend class well-prepared to speak. My professor was quite strict about class participation and thus those who prefer to stay silent in class may find it challenging at first, but I believe it is a good thing to voice out your understanding of the law and have any misconceptions rectified (very common to have misinterpretations of the concepts based on my experience). Better to make mistake in class than in the finals and no need to fear embarrassment because chances are most people probably has the same misconception as you.
