CC0002 NAVIGATING THE DIGITAL WORLD (2.0 AU)

With digitalization now becoming the new normal in our daily life, this course seeks to equip students from different disciplines with problem-solving techniques with the aid of computers and to enable them to acquire some common but essential digital skills that are crucial in today?s workforce. In this course, students will learn how to apply the concept of computational thinking and quantitative reasoning to solve problem and analyse data. They will also learn how to identify online threats and understand the principles of ethics and intellectual property rights in the digital world. They will also be exposed to current issues in the digital world, which they can better understand through the logics of computational thinking and quantitative reasoning, such as cybersecurity and the rise of fake news. In addition, students will also learn how to use some of the latest online tools for effective presentation, communication, and collaborative skills in teams while learning the course.

CC0002 has done a revamp on it module making it easier to understand and do. The only downside is if u have unreliable team member to do the project. Other then that the video and quiz are feasible and the class activity are fun ok to do.

    CC2(Navigating the digital world)

Taken in year 1 sem 2.

Level of difficulty:Based on your group members

    My grade:B

Unfortunately I had the misfortune of being with terrible group mates. But actually this module is really doable it teaches you a lot such as how to create a strong password. Really I learnt a lot from NTU’s holistic education. When I go to interviews I tell them I learnt how to create a strong password in cc7 and they are impressed.

A pretty useless but easy module that did not take up much time.

Very long LAMS videos but I skipped them and did the quiz just by using the slides. The group project can also be finished quite quickly (my group finished in an afternoon). Tutorials are also quite waste time and honestly did not learn much from this module.

Assessments: weekly LAMS videos, 2 quizzes (worth 20% each), 2 1500-2000 word group reports (worth 10% each)

    Grade: A-

Absolutely hated this module… the entire module was weirdly structured with no adherence to the fact that this is merely a 2AU mod. LAMS videos were longer than 30 mins each week (the allocated time btw), quizzes test pretty much everything not mentioned in the videos. Most infuriatingly, the group reports are detestable… write so much for 10% of the grade each?? The last report assignment was given to us in week 12 (ppl have finals pls??) Had an awesome group so I ain’t gonna complain further but yea disliked this so much… I got Dr Josephine Chong (she’s really nice tho I guess that’s the only positive thing from this entire mod)

Module that covers a lot of content but only tests a portion of what is covered. I found that the quizzes were not a fair assessment of the knowledge students have garnered since you’re expected to learn so much, but are only going to be tested about 2 questions from each chapter. There are a total of 4 graded assessments, excluding LAMs, 2 being mid-term quizzes (20% each) and 2 being essays (10% each). Personally feel that the essays should have higher weightage over the quizzes since it’s extremely easy to screw up the quizzes since they tend to cover content that were never covered in the LAMs video.

Overall, did not enjoy this module since the content taught lacked relevance and was overbearing for a 2 AU module.

The design of this module is really poor. This video content is good, but the curriculum design felt more touch-and-go than any kind of substantial academic discussion of topics.

Don’t get me wrong I would see why the contents in this course are useful but this course really feels like rojak. It is like having too many eggs to choose and not selecting the most important few that’s most applicable right now.

However, the thinking techniques in part 1 have no relevance to “Digital World”, but nevertheless, it is still helpful to apply critical thinking methods and should be simplified (it’s too complicated) and condensed into 1 lecture instead of 5 lectures.
Like what b said, excel (a VERY useful tool for navigating the digital world) was taught but not tested. As a CoB mod, such a useful skill should be the main focus of part 1. Other more relevant business related tools of today like social media, advertisements etc. are important as well

For Part 2, the course contents are applicable to today’s world context and are useful to know like Cybersecurity, IP rights, latest technological trends.

The course should decide whether they want to conduct 2 quizzes or 2 essays. Not all 4 (as it is a 2 AU mod)
And the LAMs videos should take no longer than 25 mins if the class time is 1h 30 mins. (as once again, it is a 2 AU mod)

lams videos are long and are all graded
need to submit 2 essay assignments and have 2 quizzes
workload is not worth 2 AU tbh
classes (at least for me) was not very helpful?
supposed to teach excel techniques but the class is not helpful plus excel is not tested so quite a waste of time

Most content is covered in LAMS and takes way too long to complete. Too much workload for 2AU (constant presentations + 2 quizzes + 2 group reports).

Should be made into a UE instead.
