This course examines the natural and human dimensions of hazards such as earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical storms, floods, landslides, soil erosion and desertification. Course work focuses on the causes of major natural hazards — such as climate change, sea-level rise, and tectonics – as well as their spatial and temporal distribution. Moreover, students will be exposed to the assessment of risks posed to society and possibilities for sustainable adaptation.

Took this in y1. Would be an easy A for those who took geog before. I took H1 geog for A levels and alot of content overlapped. Ofc there are some new topics but spending some time weekly to go through the notes would take you far for this course. I spent about 3 hours per week reviewing past week’s lecture and got A in the end. I would think it might be too much content for someone who doesnt have a geog background and thus not worth the amount of time and effort getting the A for.
It does help to have genuine interest, because as for any ES mods, having interest means the things will retain in your brain since it makes sense

Frm SoH taking this as a BDE, and I think this is my fave mod this semester content covered gives excellent breadth and substantial depth as a whole. Don’t get me wrong, the technicalities do require some attention, and some background knowledge either in geog or physics certainly helps. I took Alevel geog so some parts were definitely easier to understand, though the physics bit did take a bit of mental gymnastics LOL.
There weekly graded quizes (arnd 10 mcq qns?) and 1 final (100 mcq), workload was very manageable as long as u kinda listen in class review the last wks notes before the quizes. Lectures are 3h with a breakin the middle, all recorded.
Prof is quite understanding, nice chap, quite passionate I don’t think classes are boring, jst could be hard to sustain attention for the entire duration of lectures (then again isnt that every other class HAHA). Man’s open to questions, and he’d sometimes bring teaching aides for better visual demonstrations, which i did appreciate!
Overall would recommend!
