This course is a general survey of the literature during the pre-Qin period and Han, Wei and Jin dynasties. The objective of the subject is to introduce students to the major genres and themes of the literature of these periods. Students will acquire the knowledge through guided close reading of selected works by major writers.

Final Exam – 50%You will be assigned a translated poem to work on. You have to find the corresponding Chinese poem and do the analysis on it. It is kind of hard to find the correct poem and you have to work on your own.
Groups are assigned by lucky draw, which means you can’t choose your groupmate 🙁 Your group will need to prepare a 30min presentation on the topics assigned. There’s nothing much.
The final exam is a killer!!!! Prof will tell you what are the things that are important (aka tested in the exam) throughout the lecture. Really need to take note of all these and start memorizing!!!! If not you will have to face plenty of things to remember before the exam. Though the prof said it is not necessary for you to memorize, applying all those poems in the essay may give you a higher grade than others who don’t.
