SP0023 ERROR & BIAS (3.0 AU)

Rooted in psychology but accessible by students of multiple disciplines, this course will contribute to an elective module the NTU-USP Programme in both the Science, Technology and Society (STS) and Social Science (SS) categories of elective courses. In this course, students will reflect upon the biases and shortcomings that people show in their perceptions, inferences, memories, and behaviours, and how these are crucial to understanding both effective social behaviour and many forms of maladaptive behaviour and social conflict. Students will examine such errors and biases in the context of topics such as social relationships, behavioural economics, philosophy, culture, social policy, law, and technology.
