I took this mod in 2020 Semester 1 and was taught by Prof Chia Chian Hong. This prof is super chill and gives good remarks for every presentation. But because he praises everyone, you do not know who did well. Prof Chia will give us additional slides that other profs do not give and he will go through them during each seminar lesson. But to be honest, every lesson is basically a napping session for most of us since its all conducted on blackboard – not that its a bad thing 🙂
Every week we are required to go through some LAMS and weekly mini quizzes which contribute to your overall grades. Be sure not to miss any LAMS and do well for all mini quizzes as the bellcurve is extremely strict. The content is actually very simple and easy to understand but its not very practical and useful as its all stuff that we can learn easily on the internet. The only useful topics are the one on data analytics and blockchain technology.
Two quizzes are conducted during the 1st and 2nd half of the semester. The quizzes are randomised and some questions can be quite tricky. For both quizzes, the median is about 16 to 20/24 and to be above the 75th percentile you need to score 21-24 marks. There is take-home assignment using Excel and one group project utilising Tableau. Both are very simple and if you are in Prof Chia’s class, you just need to go through the videos he posted.
To sum up, this mod is really very dependent on how your prof marks as the bellcurve is extremely steep. I expected an A but got an A- instead despite doing well for every component.
