Apps and Telegrams Channels I Found Useful as an NTU Student

Whether you are a prospective or current student of NTU, these apps will definitely be very useful in enriching your student life. I’ve used these apps for more than 2 years now and I can safely say that without these apps, I don’t think I could have survived in uni. Of course, these apps are not ranked according to their usefulness, and I’m not sponsored by anyone to do this post.

Here are a list of apps that I've found useful:

  • uWave. It is a third-party one-stop NTU app that is free to download for all students. The app can be used to interact with other students, check student discounts and campus bus arrival timings. You can also include your timetable and check or leave module reviews as well. I used this app mainly for its timetable features and module reviews.
  • Outlook. Yeah it feels very adult-y to have an email app in your device but honestly, as the main medium of communication between you and the school, this is definitely a must-have for all ntu students. You will definitely be kept up-to-date with the latest events happening in school, internships to sign up for and assignments to do. However, it can be pretty annoying to look at school-related emails on the weekends, so I only installed the app in my iPad (as my iPad is mainly for school purposes)
  • Blackboard. It’s an app where your profs will post important announcements about your modules, as well as tests and assignments. I mostly use this app to read the announcements. For tests and assignments, I prefer to use the web version instead.
  • Notability. I understand that this is a pretty expensive note-taking app so I would not recommend all ntu students to download. Some notable features include voice recording and syncing notes onto your Google drive. Despite its hefty price, I found this app very useful as I can replay my prof’s lecture and refer to my notes at the same time. I can also access the notes I have taken in the app on any device that can access google drive. If you feel that Notability is too expensive, then Foxit PDF is not bad for a free version of a note-taking app, but sometimes it doesn’t save my notes or it hangs at the worst possible moment. It also does not have a voice recording feature either, though it can sync your notes in Google drive.

The following section lists the telegram channels that I’ve joined and personally found it useful:

  • @ntutelegrambot. Ever since the NTU website was unnecessarily revamped a lot of the links to important web pages have been changed, rendering the old links broken. This channel serves as a shortcut in navigating the newly-revamped ntu website. I used this for the shortcut to STARS.
  • @ntufreebies. It may be slightly inactive nowadays but back when school events were allowed to be held in full force this telegram group provided much-needed info for students who are interested in free stuff given around the campus. Some of the free stuff given out can include souvenir pens, tote bags or even food!
  • @freefoodntu Similar to @ntufreebies, this is a telegram group that may be inactive right now due to the lack of school events, but it is a channel dedicated to free food given around the campus.
