This course aims to provide you with the necessary introductory accounting knowledge to understand how to use financial statement information to make economic decisions from a user perspective such as investors and creditors. In the process, you will learn to prepare a basic set of financial statements in accordance with the Singapore Financial Reporting Standards.
The course also examines the impact of various accounting choices on the financial statements and the incentives that contracts based on accounting numbers can create for different stakeholders. This will help you understand why managers choose certain accounting methods and avoid others. This learning forms the foundation for further studies in areas which require accounting knowledge.

Tutor: Tan Kai Guan, Clement
Expected Grade: A
Actual Grade: A+No accounting background at all in Secondary school or JC, found this course pretty easy and manageable. Prof Tan encourages everyone to speak up for class part and his lessons are pretty engaging and useful. Just need to study for finals. Questions come easy as long as you understand the concepts.

AY 20/21 S2
Tutor: Lim Swee Thiam
Expected Grade: A
Actual Grade: AThis module involves extensive self-studying and is highly reminiscent of AB1301 Business Law, where you’re expected to go to seminars well prepared, having done all your learning beforehand. However, the pedagogy is slightly different in that you’ll be exposed to elements of the accounting equation in the first few weeks before diving deeper into the specifics. As everything is interconnected, again, you’ll need to put in consistent effort to understand the content. While the content may be less than many other 4AU equivalent modules, the practices (Cengage and tutorial) will take up a lot of your time, not to mention the potentially confusing details in each part of the accounting equation.

Requires quite abit of understanding, must understand the basics in order to do well, as most of the stuff taught at the later part require solid knowledge of the stuff at the front, as the stuff taught all links. This mod cannot play catch up, else would suffer at the end, as the stuff taught only gets more complicated and harder. Hav weekly graded LAMS,weekly cengage quiz (unlimited tries to get full marks so this part is a giveaway) but the LAMs hav to be careful as only hav a few tries and would get penalized if more than 1/2 tries done for the qn. Hav a mini group project, all was done online so nth much, juz hav to prepare one question with grpmates, similar to blaw. Grades more or less dependent on finals (60%), quite manageable, not v hard, as long as got study shld be able to do well. Lecturer basically juz reading off the slides, but for accounting there is nth much to explain tbh. Class participation marks are also awarded (10 or 15%?) Seminar prof was nt bad, constantly asked if we had any queries but rlly is either u know it or u dun know it which depends on whether u did study or not. Overall this mod can score decently well as long as u constantly study for it, and do not lag behind. Workload nth much, as seminar qn nt compulsory, only hav to make sure LAMS and cengage are done weekly as it expires after each week.
