We now spend much of our time in digital spaces, Whether we are shopping online, playing a game on our smartphones, collaboratively editing a document, or chatting remotely with our friends and family, we rely on digital technologies for entertainment, communication, and work. These digital spaces and digital activities provide opportunities for organizing our society in new and more, productive ways, enhancing our abilities to understand and relate to one another, improving democratic participation, and gaining greater knowledge of the world around us. However, they also post significant challenges for privacy, for social equality, and for fairness and justice. As such this module will focus on:
1. The rise of computing and its social impact;
2. Introduction to software and critical approaches to software;
3. Understanding networking and its social and cultural impacts;
4. Introduction to Data Science and Big Data (including critical approaches to Big Data),

If theres one word to describe this course, it would be evil. Shitty teammates, fking can’t stand sss students who did absolutely nothing to contribute to the group project. Haram probably has a separate email because of all the complains. teaching completely different from the readings which is completely different from the test. no fking clue why im studying this when im not even majoring in this stupidity

Year Taken: AY 21/22, Sem 1
Online activities – 25% Individual
2 online tests – 50% (25% each) Individual
Group video project – 25% GroupQuizzes are open-book now so you don’t really have to go through all the readings thoroughly. My advice would be to roughly know the content of the readings so you will know where to find the answers quickly during the quiz. Quizzes are mostly MCQ with a few short answer questions. 25 questions in 1 hour.
As for the group project it helps to have good teammates (they are randomly assigned) and video editing skills.

This module is BY FAR the worst module in the history of CoHASS. Why are humanities students REQUIRED to do coding, learn the history of computers, learn where factories of silicon valley are on the map and graph theory? Yeah if you like it then take it as a hobby but when you force students to take it, with no option to s/u bc its some GERCore mod?? Insanely unneeded. There are weekly LAMS, exceedingly difficult mid and end semester quizzes that frankly have contradicting information which then affects grades, and then a 5 minute video assignment, fully made from scratch. It’s unfortunate that people are REQUIRED to take this, or no one would sign up. This module is a pathetic attempt at NTU’s bid for “hOliStIc EduCatIon aNd CurrIcuLum”

Year Taken: AY 20/21, Sem 2
Online activities – 25% Individual
2 online tests – 50% (25% each) Individual
Group video project – 25% GroupA GER-Core mod with compulsory readings to do. Yes you read that right. The first half of the module focuses on history and evolution of technology, while the latter half of the course is basically a rehash of HD0102. The readings could go up to 80 pages for one week, and it can get very technical. They are also tested in quizzes. There are online activities (known as online learning packages ‘OLP’) to be completed every week. The online packages are similar to LAMS but much more colourful visually. There are also questions to be answered in the OLP but they will not be graded.
There are slides provided but they are not very useful, since it is just pictures. The deliverable for the group project is a 3-4 minute video that relates to the content that was covered in class. The prof will assign the group for every student, and we are not allowed to choose our members. Seniors who have taken this mod told me that the prof will mark down any group who did pure slides narration (to a B-) so take that information as you will. Easily one of the worst modules I have taken in my uni life; I had no idea what I was learning or doing most of the time. Sometimes I felt that HG2052 did a better explanation for some of the concepts covered in this mod. I found this harder to get through as compared to HD0102 tbh. I was not the only one with similar complaints, which can be found here and here.

A really bad mod which has no relevance to what we are studying. The slides are awful and the lecturer is just bad at teaching.
