HG2093 DISCOVERING UNWRITTEN STORIES (3.0 AU)

This course is designed to provide a theoretical frame and language reconstruction training in Toponymy and Toponomastics, both at the level of the historical reconstruction of the origins and original meanings of place names all over the world (in different historical and geographical contexts) and in the evaluation of the relations between Toponymy and human societies. Students will be provided with an overall view on the study of Diachronic Toponymy (undocumented and endangered linguistic contexts) and Historical Toponomastics (linguistic contexts with available historical sources and records) and on their relevance in the reconstruction of proto-languages and in hypothesizing the existence of pre-languages.

Special thanks to 2 seniors that reached out to me anonymously to recommend this module. Toponymy is a term that refers to place names. The professor for this module is very passionate at teaching, and the content is also rather straightforward. The workload is relatively light as well. Similar to HG2031, readings are provided but not tested in quizzes unless the prof says otherwise. The essay is free topic, meaning you are free to write anything you want as long as it relates to the module. Both quizzes consist of short answer questions, followed by 2-3 open-ended questions. Before the week of the quiz, try to attend the class because he will give crucial study tips that will help a lot during the quiz.

I love this module because the prof is damn solid and I felt super spoiled in his class tbh. Quick response to emails??? Cracks jokes in class??? Sign me up. Would recommend this module if you’re struggling with LMS and in need of a fix for your GPA.
