This course encourages you to think critically about major approaches to Chinese migration and the shifts that have occurred in the field following broader economic, political, and academic changes. You will also learn to understand Chinese migration patterns in relation to broader migration patterns, both regional and global. You will furthermore be able to apply theoretical models to the historical development of Chinese communities in various geographical regions. Finally, this course will enable you to develop your own arguments, both oral and written, about Chinese migration based on a reading of primary and secondary sources in the field.
