This module aims to encourage undergraduates, who are our future leaders and citizens, to reflect on Singapore’s post-independence history, imagine the kind of Singapore they would like to co-create for the future, and deliberate on what it takes to achieve the vision(s) they have for Singapore.

Depends on your tutor, if you get an anything-goes tutor, it will be a breeze.
Weekly discussions + Online LAMS + 1 final essay
Weekly discussions dependent on whether your tutor is strict. If not, its just appearing for class and passing. LAMS is MCQ and essay is very easy to write. overall, P/F mod. worth taking esp in y3/4.December 12, 2022 -
Taken in: AY 20/21 Sem 1
Grade: Pass12 Online LAMS MCQ Quizzes, 5 qns each (30%): 56/60
Reflection Essay (50%)
Class Participation (20%)I think there are many reviews on this everywhere lol so shall be brief. How this mod is carried out: alternate wks of physicals seminars and alternate wks of online discussion. Online discussion (meaning you can do it at home) is just using a blackboard platform to discuss your response to a qn that your tutor will give you beforehand. After discussing, a randomly appointed scribe will have to collate, summarise and submit 1 response per group. For physical seminars depending on your tutor, you may be required to participate in discussion every physical seminar or you can just sit, listen and leave hahah but my tutor was the kind that asks for our views and input every lesson, some lessons we will have to do up powerpoints, or write our responses on padlet and present it. Seems like a bit much for a pass/fail mod, but anyway you do not have to present very well since pass/fail right 😂 For the online LAMS, it is meant to be done weekly for 12wks, but honestly you can just finish it as early as you want and just forget about it. The reflection essay was 1000 words max, not difficult! But our tutor said because most students have a “heck care” attitude and do not turn up for physical seminars because we all just need to pass so it is in discussion to make this mod letter-graded, not sure when it will be implemented though.

Year Taken: AY 20/21, Sem 2
Weekly MCQs – 30% Individual
Reflection Essay (1000 words) – 50% Individual
Class participation – 20% Individual3AUs graded on a pass/fail basis and no finals??? Easily one of the slackest UEs I’ve taken. There were only 5 questions each week for the weekly MCQ, and the only ‘heavy workload’ is the reflection essay. For class participation, I only had to turn up for class, discuss the question for that week with my groupmates, and after that I’m done for the class. The course is very strict with attendance though, and the tutors will state that upfront in the first lesson. There are weeks when the class is conducted in-person, and weeks where the lesson will be conducted online.
When the classes are conducted online, there will be work known as ‘online collaboration activities’ assigned to everyone. How it works is that you and your group will have to log into the course site during lesson time, and you will need to answer some discussion questions based on an article. After that, you will be directed to another page where you and your group will combine your answers for the same questions assigned earlier. The system works like a chat system with report-writing abilities. If you see yourself having a heavy semester and in need of a UE to clear, this is the one for you.

A very manageable P/F mod. You will learn about the the strengths, weakness and threats that Singapore faces and how this will affect the country’s future. You will also reflect on the policies and strategies that could help Singapore to overcome these difficulties. The course is conducted online and in-person on alternate weeks. Final assignment is a 1000 word essay reflecting on one of the selected topics. Overall, quite an interesting and stress-free mod.

i took this module in year 1 sem 1. this module is actually really manageable and fun to take. classes are half tutorials (class and group discussions) and half online (discussing about a certain topic about the week). there are also online videos to watch and quizzes to take (relatively easy). the final assignment is a 1000 word essay on a topic you can choose. highly recommend anyone to take this mod!
