This course is offered to Year 3 and Year 4 students. The course introduces you to computational fluid dynamics (CFD) which involves the numerical solution of the partial differential equations governing fluid flow. The overall aim of the course is to extend the fundamental knowledge of fluid mechanics and to apply them to complex relevant problems by use of CFD. This is achieved by introducing the fundamental concepts of numerical approximations of fluid flow equations, solving the resulting numerical system of equations, distinguishing between different types of error, determining stability of different numerical approximations, classifying and identifying the different partial differential equations types. The course also aims to train you on commercial CFD software.
