I took Hockey during my year 2 as I needed 3 more AU and decided to go for a sports mod as my mindset was, “it’s like PE”. I entered with zero knowledge of the sport. Practical lessons are really not that hard to understand, from holding the stick to passing and first touch. To me, the harder part comes when hitting and scooping as there are different ways to do them and only some of them will be used for the practical test. At the end of each lesson, the class will play a friendly where the teacher says he will “see your skills” and grade you accordingly (secretly of course).
The major downer for me is the theory test. I studied the rulebook but like half of the paper is about practical skills which I only know how to execute but not specifically knowing the steps (like step 1, step 2 and so on)
However, the course doesn’t really have homework, it’s once per week (although early) and you don’t even have to own a hockey stick! The teacher/coach also provides feedback during and after lessons. And no jogging! (Unless you count matches where you have to run the whole field…)
